The Fortunes of Olivia Richmond cover reveal

We are delighted to exclusively reveal the stunning cover for new gothic thriller, The Fortunes of Olivia Richmond by Louise Davidson.

Designed by Bookseller Award Best Designer nominee Jasmine Aurora, The Fortunes of Olivia Richmond will be released in beautiful gift edition hardback, complete with sprayed edges, on 26th October.

This exciting debut novel tells the story of Victorian governess Julia Pearlie, who finds herself with no job, home, or references following a terrible incident with her previous charge. When she’s offered a position as companion to Miss Olivia Richmond, she’s relieved. But Mistcoate House is full of secrets.

Olivia has a sinister reputation. The locals call her the Mistcoate Witch, thanks to her tarot readings, and her insistence that she can speak to the dead. Her brother, Dr Richmond, believes this to be girlish fantasy and is looking to Julia to put a stop to it.

Determined to prove herself and shake off her own murky history, Julia sets to work trying to turn Olivia into a proper young lady. However, as she becomes a fixture at Mistcoate, it is soon clear that there may be more to Olivia’s stories than Dr Richmond would have Julia believe – not least because somehow, Olivia seems to know something of the darkness that Julia desperately hoped she had left behind.

As the danger grows, and the winter chill wraps around the dark woods surrounding Mistcoate, Julia will have to fight to uncover the truth, escape her past – and save herself.

Designer Jasmine Aurora says:

When I first read The Fortunes of Olivia Richmond I was desperate to design the cover. It’s full of mystery, with an undercurrent of horror that belies its genteel setting. I wanted the cover to communicate that, which is why I took the tropes of the big country house and the crinolined-Victorian lady and turned them on their head. The dark and red colour palette evokes the sinister atmosphere of the book and the single lit window suggests so many things: it could be a sign of hope, but it could also be the unearthly light of a ghostly apparition... I only hope I’ve done Louise’s fantastic words justice. And if you think the cover is creepy... wait until you read the book!
