Blue Running announced by The Bookseller

The Bookseller announced today our acquisition of Lori Ann Stephens’ blistering new coming-of-age thriller Blue Running, set in an alternate reality where guns are compulsory and nothing is forgiven.

Stephens is an award-winning author whose novels for children and adults include Novalee and the Spider Secret, Some Act of Vision, and Song of the Orange Moons. Her short stories have appeared in Glimmer Train Stories, The Chicago Tribune’s Nelson Algren Awards and other literary presses. She teaches creative writing and critical reasoning at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Blue Running follows the story of fourteen-year-old Bluebonnet Andrews, who is on the run across the Republic of Texas following an accident with a gun in which her best friend was killed. Desperate to track down her mother who escaped to America before the secession, she makes her way to the wall that keeps everybody in. On the way she meets Jet, a young pregnant woman, who is equally determined to get out. The two form an unlikely kinship - but will they be able to cross the border, or will they be shot down in cold blood like the thousands who have gone before them?

Publisher Christi Daugherty says: “Blue Running is a gift of a novel, and I knew as soon as I read it that it would be the perfect first book for Moonflower. It’s incredibly gripping and it pulls no punches. A fast-paced, page-turning, chilling book which looks unflinchingly at what the future could hold. It has something to say about the world - but it’s also a wildly entertaining read.”
